As a mystery writer, I really loved this book. Tons of great info on crime scene protocol, forensics, police procedure, even how the police are trained to get confessions! Useful for me so that my readers don't go: "That never happens in real life," the kiss of death for a mystery.And if you read this book, you'll also realize that committing the perfect murder is very, very difficult thing to do. Thank heavens!
Five stars as this was a great read! I loved all the detail. Particularly the real life stories he used as examples. Highly recommend for anyone who has ever wondered about the perfect murder!
Don't read this of you watch those CSI shows. It will ruin the story for you. You'll just keep noticing the fake stuff they put in them.
Good information, and lots of it, though more breadth than depth.
The book doesn't tell "How to commit the perfect murder" (thankfully) and it doesn't do a comprehensive job of analyzing forensic science either as the subtitle might suggest. Too much of the book was devoted to rehashing crime history and serial killers of the past. A lot of sound advice is included about what to do if you're sitting in jail but if you're sitting in jail then you haven't really committed the "perfect murder". A number of distracting misspellings in the book like for example the BTK killer being referred to twice in the book as the guy who liked to "blind, torture and kill". Dennis Rader didn't poke anybody's eyes out as far as I know. But another set of eyes before publishing would have made this book better.
