I finished the book around 2:00am last night and decided to sleep and reflect on it before reviewing. It was merely okay. I've loved this series, and the Masters of the Mountain/Masters of Dark Haven series, for a while now. But there were too many elements and plot devices in this book that appeared in previous books for my liking. It echoed If Only almost point for point. Insecure submissive, in this case Uzuri, gets injured and two of the Masters of the Shadowlands take her home for a few days to keep an eye on her recovery. She decides to have them help her with a serious issue, so she moves in for a while. Something bad happens, and she assumes all of the blame and guilt, breaking off the relationship and running away. Sound familiar to anyone else? Granted, that isn't the entire plot. Phsycotic stalkers seem to exist in larger numbers in Sinclair's world than they do in reality. It seems to be one of her favorite plot devices. In addition to the recycled material, the characters are becoming stale and almost two-dimensional. Uzuri isn't the first of the Shadowlands submissives to have deep personal issues that come from a past lover who turned out to be a crazed stalker. Max isn't the only LEO in the series to have occasional troubles dealing with the stress of his job. Alastair isn't the first medical professional who lets patient situations beyond his control come home with him to bleed all over the people for whom he cares. Sinclair has found comfortable niches with these kinds of characters and situations and doesn't seem to want to try anything different. Also, for being the supposed worst pranksters in the club, Uzuri didn't seem to be as into the pranks as her reputation. Sally was more active and creative in If Only, despite her own deep personal issues. It certainly didn't fit with Uzuri's characterization in previous books.Bottom line? After 11 books and a novella, Cherise Sinclair has become entirely too comfortable with this series, and she's left the door open for more. I will give the next one a try, but if it isn't substantially better than this one, I'll not read further in the series. Overall, Mischief and the Masters was okay, and if you've stuck with the series this far and want to know why Uzuri is the way she is, it might be worth your while. Otherwise, you might not find it to be worth your time.

Uzuri has been a sub at Shadowlands for several books and has never really connected with anyone. Her backstory has been leading up to Mischief and the Masters. After all this time, she doesn't just get one Dom, she gets two! The Drago cousins.I really like Cherise Sinclair, but for some reason the last two books just have not done it for me. I will still definitely buy and read the series so I'm hoping this is a small bump in the road. Despite Uzuri being a sweetheart and the two Dom's your typical alphas, I just did not feel the connection between the three characters. As usual, the Dom's have been maneuvered/manipulated by Master Z, the sub whisperer, to take on Uzuri and get her out of her shell. Her backstory of evil stalker provides the drama of the book. The two heroes are mega yummy and experienced as Doms, but seemed BDSM-lite which is actually just fine with me. One aspect of the Dom/sub relationship that I have a hard time buying into is when the male Dom's trains the sub because of some fear or miscommunication. The omnipotent/omniscient Dom's usually end up paddling/punishing the sub. It's just too much I am male hence superior for me. Yes, I know there are female Dommes that exert the same dynamic, but, let's face it, they are few and far between and we aren't really reading them as much. At least I am not. We have several scenes like this with Uzuri. One aspect of the book and Sinclair's writing that I enjoyed is that this is a multi-race relationship. Uzuri is black; Alastair is mixed race, and Max is white. They address the race issue within the context of their relationship rather than how other people react to them. Of course, in real life an obvious menage relationship is probably more likely to trigger raised eyebrows that a mixed race couple, but what do I know. Anyway, Sinclair doesn't ignore the elephant in the room, and Uzuri expresses how difficult it can be in being black and being uncertain if people are reacting to her or the color of her skin. The other characters of Shadowland show up. Jessica is still sassy, Master Z is still yumm, and Andrea and Cullen get married. There is a very sweet scene with all the guys of Shadowland and Andrea. NOT THAT KIND OF SCENE, I said sweet. The most interesting person for me was Holt, a Dom and a friend of Uzuri. It looks as if he's up next, and he seems promising since he chose a loser girlfriend this time. All he needs is the love of a sweet girl he can tie up and paddle. Ah, young love. He's another nice guy Dom so who knows? Maybe that's the problem. The edgier ones are more fun to read. I will say this about CS, she doesn't equate alpha with cruel.

Great writing as always. Personally I'm tired of reading a character that is so martyr. I think this might be it for me with your books. I feel like all the female characters are all martyr's and all the male characters all laugh during sex, which I find extremely weird. It was good while it lasted but it's time to move on since your characters are all starting to be the same.

A great book about a young couple traveling through Africa on their honeymoon by car. They could have saved a lot of money and aggravation had they prepared better. A few of their situations could have ended very badly. Still, a good read. Thanks Graham for writing it!

What could go wrong ... did go wrong ... yet the spirit of these two honeymoon adventurers never dampened as they traversed the rough terrain of Africa. Without much of a plan, you too get to ride along with Graham and Trish in their motor vehicle, without getting hot, thirsty, dirty, or tired; without investing every penny to your name to keep the thing going, without doing the digging when stuck; and without experiencing the unknown fears of traveling a country filled with a thousand unknowns. Unfortunately, you don't get to taste the amazing game or meet the amazing people along the way. Extremely well written and engaging, I am hoping Graham writes another book soon!

Quirky, intriguing, and utterly unique. A lifetime researching pomegranates and assembling a vast collection in Turkmenistan, only to have the whole thing unravel after the breakdown of the old Soviet Union when Turkmenistan gained sovereignty`and the undeniably brutal and stupid new regime pulled funding for the Station. I've seen the same thing happen in America (you don't have to have a stupid government to have stupid tings happen to large collections) but the politics make this story all the sadder. Gregory did move on the Israel, where he apparently assembled yet another collection. The writing is fast paced and a sort of testament to what occurred across the former Soviet Union in those breathless days in the 1990's--well worth reading even if (like me( you're not a pomegranate grower.

Wow. This book makes me long for my grad school days. What an inspired story of scientific pursuit, history, evolution, ethnobotany, and the love of pomegranates. I love this book so much I want to eat it. This is a must read. He includes detailed descriptions of plant guilds that would grow well in dry places and some information that could lead readers to find sources of pomegranate germplasm. I love how he weaves his story together. The botanical terminology makes my heart flutter! I want to visit the places he's been. Reading this book right now is especially poignant as many place names he uses have been on the news as sites of bombing and military action. I wish it were not so and this book gives me greater depth of appreciation for the history, ecology, and beauty of these areas.

Easy to read and very informative. Dr. Levin made a priceless contribution to the world and this book tells his story.

I am a gardner and I am alway expanding my knowledge about plants. This is a great book on Mr Gregor Lavin's lifetime experience with Pomegranates. He collected over 1000 varieties of domesticated and wild pomegranates in the Soviet Union and the many republics that made up that nation before the breakup of that nation. it is a beautiful story book explaining a lifetime journey with Pomegranates.

Lots of potential but I did not think it was well organized. It felt very disjointed from paragraph to paragraph in many sections. Many many details that I didn't think lent a lot to the book and missing details I would have liked to hear. I think the expedition sections were the best part of the book and even those were a little rough. Not sure if it needed an editor or what, but it read like a rambling story from a very elderly friend. Interesting but a little painful to get through.

I purchased this book primarily to learn about pomegranates as I am in the process of planting a small orchard of pomegranates. I found it to be a wonderful history lesson and an adventure. I am planting several of Dr. Levin's cultivars and have a great appreciation for all of the work he carried out for some 40 years, often at great risk of life. I often felt I was on these adventures and now wonder if I could ever participate in some exploratory treks. It's painful to read how the research stations have been bulldozed and wish more of the 1,117 cultivars could be rescued. It was hard to put this book down and I now have a much greater appreciation for being able to grow some of Dr. Levin's cultivars. I only hope I can do them justice!

Pomegranate Roads is a one of a kind memoir that reflects the history of Soviet Science, the botany and culture of pomegranates, the personal history of an intrepid explorer and botanist who worked his entire life in the remote areas of Central Asia and the Caucasus to collect and protect the species. Dr. Levin created the world's largest pomegranate collection, 1117 accessions, in Turkmenistan before the collapse of the USSR and his exile. He describes just about everything you'd want to know from the range of tastes and health benefits to all the myths and stories. As he writes, "I was fortunate to have met the pomegrnate early in my life, to have been attuned to its energy, and to have my thoughts and deeds dedicated to it for many years." A great book about planet pomegranate.

As a child during WWII, the author saved his mother from scurvy because of his vast botanical knowledge even then. This book isn't only full of information on pomegranates but has many relevant anecdotal personal stories. An interesting, informative, well written (well edited), illustrated book every gardener should have.

At over 1,500 reviews, I know my review won't make a difference, but I just wrote a negative review, so I felt the need to balance things out. I'll make this brief. This is one of the most outstanding novels I've ever read. I normally don't reread books, but this one will be the exception. Stout tells small stories about small people, in a small town, but none of this is small, because Stout reveals that all of our stories--and yes this is an every person type of book, are beautiful. Stout's empathetic authorial voice is beautiful. Beautiful is a word I use over and over describing this book. Her use of language is heart bracingly beautiful to the point where sometimes I had to put the book down just to absorb the profound pathos she describes.I promised a short review, so I will conclude by saying my life has been enriched by reading this novel.

In a series of thirteen vignettes, author Elizabeth Strout sets out to illuminate a small town in coastal Maine and one of its inhabitants, a retired schoolteacher named Olive Kitteridge.Readers are the voyeurs in Olive Kitteridge. While we peep into the lives of a piano player in a lounge, a troubled teenage girl, and Olive's own husband and son (among others), we see people dealing with all sorts of problems... and we see that Olive is-- for the most part-- considered to be a rather unpleasant and unpredictable force of nature. But as our knowledge of the people of Crosby, Maine increases so does Olive's self-awareness. The lessons she learns are sometimes painful and always ruthlessly honest.I loved how my understanding of the characters deepened with each new chapter. Initially seen in an unflattering light, some characters changed as the light shone upon them from different angles. This is a little gem, although I can see some readers believing that nothing ever happens in it. I found this book to be mesmerizing and to contain one brilliant character study after another. Quiet, unassuming writing can sometimes wield great power and beauty, and this is exactly what I found in the pages of Olive Kitteridge.

These 13 stories revolving around a small group of people living in a coastal Maine town is deeply moving and thought provoking. Psychological snapshots of the moments of our lives. These tales are finely wrought and expertly honed into little gems of introspection. The stories all involve the central character, Olive Kitteridge, in one way or another - each told from the perspective of either Olive or one of the townspeople. Each gives us an insight - a small glimpse through a lighted window - into a life of one of these townsfolk. Brilliantly crafted and stunning in their ability to expose deep feelings of love, loss, abandonment and the complexity of life, the scope and breadth of this novel is far greater than the sum of its 13 parts. Well worth a read and some reflection.

Olive Kitteridge's story is one of the best portrayed narratives of the human condition. Olive is the common thread that holds the stories of other families together throughout this compilation of events in the lives of country folk in small town America. I found the book difficult to put down.Olive is a rather eccentric individual, and not the most likable person in the world, but there is something about her that unites her with others in her small community. The individual stories of Olive's acquaintances are varied, and many times heart wrenching, but each story shares common ground with each of us.I highly recommend this book if you enjoy reading about ordinary human beings and the struggles we encounter. Personally, I loved the book!

After my third reading of OLIVE KITTERIDGE, I am still unable to write a conventional review. Elizabeth Strout writes almost poetically about everyday people, who live in a small Maine town. Her attention to detail, whether it be the way the sun’s rays strike a table or the description of a woman’s dress, astonishes me. The characters are so complete, so extraordinary, yet so ordinary. Elizabeth Strout’s narrative and dialogue flows naturally; this is the way we actually converse, I kept thinking. And how I love quirky Olive, who makes an appearance at the most unexpected times.I suspect that this is not a book that will satisfy everyone. There is not really a plot, a start and an ending. Instead, I read a book that enriched and inspired me. Olive, I shall return!

Olive Kitteridge is not quite a novel and not quite a collection of short stories. It is more like a series of vignettes about people and events in a town in Maine. Some of these vignettes focus on Olive Kitteridge and others barely mention her, but as we read them, we learn more about Olive and how she affects others, particularly family members and how they affect her. We see how some events in her life affected her character. We also see how she changes over time.Olive often seemed like a mean person and she didn't apologize when she hurt others. Yet she often felt hurt by the very people she had hurt. She showed a lack of empathy much of the time. Underneath her hard shell, she had a softness that she rarely revealed to others. For example, she deeply loved her son, but she was often angry with him for normal behaviors and hurt him. She misinterpreted others intentions and behaviors all too often. If you need to like the main character of books that you read, you may well not like this book. However, if you like to read about character development and the interactions of imperfect people, you may love it.
