The author is a brilliant contracts attorney; you can tell by the way he analysis and re-analyzes issues. I took a contracts drafting course in law school many years ago; we didn't have a textbook, so a book like this would have been very useful. Mr. Adams's brilliance leads to some of the issues that I have with the book. There is a lengthy critique the terms "must" and "shall" and that corporate law departments overuse these terms, but the author does not provide a practical alternative. I agree with Mr. Adams that contracts should be as simple as possible without losing meaning, but his advocating removing recited consideration from a contract seems erroneous because recited consideration without actual consideration is valid in a minority of jurisdictions. It would seem to me that the best practice would be to provide language that is valid in as many jurisdictions as possible.

If you are involved with drafting or reviewing contracts, this book is an essential read and as an ongoing reference. It you follow Ken's recommendations, you will improve your drafting skills. It's also helpful in reviewing contracts by providing strong arguments that you can use to support your changes.I highly recommend this book. It has been criticized as being somewhat pedantic, however, I disagree with that critique. Ken presents well researched logic for his recommendations. If you don't agree with his recommendations, then present a better counter argument. This book and his web site AdamsDrafting are, in my opinion, the best sources available for advice on contract drafting.

A contract attorney, law student, paralegal or self educated contract specialist will find great value within these pages. The nuances of drafting contracts that includes details not often taught in schools and law firms are presented and when and why they should be used. This one will be at the top of your go to list in short order.

I've been a working contract manager and analyst for about 10 years. Outside of the areas where there are absolute rules (and there's very few of those) there is quite a bit misdirection, confusion, and misinformation related to what must be, or must not be included in contracts and what the appropriate language should be or how a contract must be drafted in order for it to be correct. I've worked, in a business capacity, with many attorney's, had conversations with many people in forums, and looked for specific answers to questions. What I've come away with is that there are few clear rules (other than avoiding any language that would be illegal) and most of the opinions are just that opinions.Books of this type are rare in that they do a good job of removing some of the mystique from contract drafting and provide straightforward and intelligent insights and answers into many situations that drafters will come across. For anyone who works in this field I highly recommend this book.

The book can be somewhat difficult to understand. Some of the language is difficult to understand. I can only digest a few chapters at a time. Books like this one work best with experience. The Manual was written as a suggestion best practices framework for contract specialists.

Very helpful manual and I would highly recommend it. Great to keep in the office for easy reference.Highly recommend it.

Great tool for my toolbox. This book is very well organized. I got all answers to my questions quickly. Good samples of what NOT to write.

This is a very easy to use guide book that will allow you and your team to immediately improve the quality of the contract documents produced. The next (3rd.) Edition was just released. It's on my must-buy list.

You Lost Me: Why Young Christians Are Leaving Church . . . and Rethinking Faith, by David Kinnaman

From the Inside Flap

More than half of all Christian teens and twentysomethings leave active involvement in church. David Kinnaman trains his researcher's eye on these young believers and reveals the factors that contribute to the dropout problem. You Lost Me shows why Christians ages 18 to 29 are leaving the church and rethinking their commitment to the faith.Based on new research conducted by the Barna Group, You Lost Me exposes ways the Christian community has failed to equip young adults to live "in but not of" the world--to follow Christ in the midst of profound cultural change. This wide-ranging study debunks persistent myths about young dropouts and examines the likely consequences for young adults and for the church if we maintain the status quo. The faith journeys of the next generation are a challenge to the established church, but they can also be a source of hope for the community of faith. Kinnaman, with the help of contributors from across the Christian spectrum, offers ideas for pastors, youth leaders, parents, and educators to pass on a vibrant, lasting faith, and ideas for young adults to find themselves in wholehearted pursuit of Christ.

David Kinnaman addresses one of the most important issues and concern for our modern day Christianity! In the book he has plenty of statistics and research and I do recommend every church leader to read this book, But again the book takes the view point from an observation perspective and is still lacking the root of the matter which is "Discipling the younger generation by becoming their spiritual fathers & mothers!

If you have any concern about the future of Christianity in America, you need to read this book. We've all felt it at the gut level. We've seen churches that don't represent local demographics when it comes to age diversity. But what do we do about the problem of young adults leaving the church? As a youth pastor, this is a truly concerning issue. What's the point of my job if after they graduate from high school they graduate from church? Furthermore, if kids are leaving after they pass through my area of ministry...is what I'm doing effective? What I like about this book is it goes beyond gut feelings and anecdotal evidence and uses hard data through the trusted research of Barna to explore these issues. It helps provide a roadmap for the future of our church by creating a better understanding of where we have failed in the recent past. It's a pretty quick and smooth read considering the ground that is covered.I dare you to read it and not sense a need for our church to change. And to change in a positive, biblical, and possibly even more orthodox way.

A wealth of data about Millennials and their thoughts about Christianity and faith. While the Millennial generation is currently 20-35 years old (by most definitions they are born from 1980-1995), this book will help you understand high schoolers, too, which are part of Gen Z. If you are a parent, this book will help you with your teens and twentysomethings. If you are involved in your church community/family as a teacher or leader of youth, you'll benefit from this book, too. While I don't believe in the Gospel by focus group or opinion polling, this book brings to light attitudes an older generation needs to know about Millennials (or Mosiacs, as Kinnaman refers to them) so we can all have greater understanding.

I was skeptical about this book, as I didn't really find "Un-Christian" to be that helpful, but I was locked in with this one from the start. The research is helpful, and the stories give the numbers real meaning and context. While the book points out the research about people leaving church, it does it without the "sky is falling" panic you find in similar resources. I've re-read this book with other staff members at our church, and it has prompted some true change in how we approach our student ministry.

An insightful look into why so many are leaving the church. The data never lies and if ignored in this case, it will lead to severe consequences for houses of faith. The empty pews are crying out to religious leaders that a new path must be pursued. A path must be forged for the church to pursue genuine relationship instead of religious dogma.

Well written, an easy read and informative. It discusses the realities of many young people who are simply disenchanted with participating in church. It gives pastors and church leaders vital information on how to better connect with our younger generation.

A lot of what the book says actually is accurate as I am an agnostic who grew up in Christian home. I really do hope that every church leader who is really dying to have people back reads this because I think some leaders fall into some, if not every, category. I left the church because I got fed up with some extreme beliefs and I dont think the leaders know that those repressive ways will not work for at least this generation.

Excellent research. Well written and clearly presented. Sadly there is little new here. It seems more a rehash of UnChristian. This book joins the long list of those writings which tell us what is wrong with the church-but with little practical support. It is a sincere effort, but not terribly helpful. Personally, I am disappointed with another video and workbook to buy for small group discussion. One wonders if we are not simply creating a market to provide significant income and celebrity status to a burgeoning number of "experts" telling us where the church has failed. There is nothing counter-cultural in mass producing more books and videos to tell readers that "every story matters" all the while creating a class of specialists drawing large fees to address conferences on what isn't working.I sincerely appreciate the research and the passion that is often evident in Kinnaman's book. Frankly, I'm just totally frustrated.
