I came across Kakuro by happenstance. I was in OfficeMax waiting in line when I spotted a beginners Kakuro book. I never heard of Kakuro before but the book looked intriguing so I thumbed through it and liked the concept. I'm not a good Sudoku person and this looked like a nice alternative because I do like puzzles. Well, I smashed through that book and I was hooked.That lead me to step up to the Green Belt Kakuro which I think was a perfect graduation for me. The Green Belt Kakuros are bigger and offer a few more combinations which tax my brain just enough to be challenged but not enough to quit. I'm starting to pick up on certain combinations and the Green Belt is beginning to get a little easier. Whereas it took me 45+ minutes to do a single puzzle before, midway through the book I'm down to about 1/2 hour for a puzzle. That's not to say that I'm no longer challenged. There are some puzzles I've had to retrace and see where did I add wrong or where did I assume a correct combination because now I'm in a impossible situation. I think that's all part of the fun and the challenge and it makes me slow down and be more attentive the next time.

I love Kakuro puzzles, and this series is among my favorites. That said, it is among my favorites because it has a real variety of puzzles. Every book in this series has a bunch of puzzles that are on the easier side, a bunch that are of medium difficulty, and a bunch that are more difficult. They could have done a better job sorting the puzzles and putting them in the most appropriate level book. I actually have found more easy puzzles in the green belt book than in the white belt book. I have not yet finished the Black Belt book (I completed the White belt, the Green belt, and the Brown belt), but that one does seem to be a bit more difficult so far. Otherwise, all three of other books are about the same level (or variety of levels).

This book has about 150 Kakuro puzzles (and no other type) which start off with a few easy (relatively easy that is) ones and then switch to a slightly larger puzzle with more squares. I find that I often have to restart a puzzle or at least a section of one and I have been doing these for a while now. I also purchased the next two books in the series, Brown Belt and Black Belt... I will probably enjoy them but they are going to be a real challenge.I definitely recommend this book if you are interested in this type of puzzle.WARNING: These puzzles can be addictive!

I do a lot of Sudoku, so I thought I'd try another kind of puzzle ... I like this book - challenging, but doable.I had one of the harder ones and, for now, they're too hard for me to solve without peeking.

A book of highly workable puzzles. They all seemed very consistent in difficulty. The book's size make it easy to hold onto and work on.

My husband is too busy with his new Green Belt Kakuro, so I'll write the review from my perspective. This is his second Kakuro book and more challenging than the easy first one. Since he has his nose in the book more than ever, I'll say it's a winner. It started out easy and they get a little harder as it goes along. He's entertained and kept busy so now he doesn't notice how much time I spend in Facebook. I better order the next level book soon!!

Mistake

working my way up through the belts. This is the easy one. Took me a little while to get going but now I am onto the Black belt kakuro. Love these books. Fit into my bag easily and plenty of room at the sides of the puzzles to use for working out.

I've done things a little bit backwards: My company committed to an equity crowdfunding campaign before reading this book. We didn’t jump into crowdfunding blindly – we talked to advisers, customers and prospective individual investors, then researched all the available Regulating Crowdfunding portals I could find before signing up. It just never occurred to me, in this Internet age, that I could read a book about equity crowdfunding, doh! I had some time on a plane ride and this book caught my eye, so I read the book to see if I was overlooking anything. It has been interesting to compare my experience in the USA with Reg CF in the real world with the guidance shared in the book.Yesterday, I was at a local startup event and recommended this book to a few people. As I explained while making the recommendation, the strongest parts of the book are: Explanation of equity crowdfunding, the guidance as to if it is a good fit for your idea/company and the preparation that is required to launch a successful campaign.To prepare for our own campaign, I heavily researched all the available USA Reg CF portals. I applied to several. I created investor accounts on several and I looked at many campaigns, both completed and active. Based on this research, here are some things to consider while reading this book:As mentioned in the book, some Reg CF portals, such as Republic and SeedInvest are picky, but other USA portals don’t seem to be very picky about the startups they allow. I applied to several portals where I had the impression that the primary/only consideration was if the owners could pass “bad actor” checks.I've seen many campaigns that have been able to raise money on ideas (rather than having traction). This isn’t an issue for my startup (we are past the idea and prototype stages and have significant traction), but I feel like it is a different from the guidance in the book (and may be due to the increasing popularity of Reg CF).Another issue that may be USA specific, but was/is confusing is how/how much you are allowed to “precondition” the market. The book makes a very strong case that you need to launch with investors already lined up. It seem to me that this is in opposition to SEC regulations and the guidance we’ve been given by the Reg CF portals.Most of the Reg CF portals either have or plan to allow a “rolling close”. Because of this, some companies leave their campaigns open for a full year (assuming they don’t hit the USA max $1.07 million before then). This changes the dynamic where companies hope to/need to raise most of their money at the beginning and end of their campaigns.Good luck with your ventures!

Dunno. Black and white pictures of the greatest colorful architect ever? Not worth it.

The photography is superb and I appreciated that floor plans were available to flesh out the written descriptions. Also liked having he map of Spain with his world heritage sites located as well as the street plan of Barcelona where locations of his building projects could be found. I am excitedly planning a vacation to Barcelona and the city map will help in my choice of hotel. There was also just enough history, both political and architectural, to gain a better perspective on his work without being overpowered by historical details. This book has the high quality of an artistic eye catching coffee table book without the ponderous weight to hold and read it. This was a most satisfying combination of background, photography and artistic description for examples of his major building projects. The book also revealed an interesting aspect of patron/artist relationships in modern times with summary information about his clients.

A "Pamphlet" at best, barely skimming the Brilliance of this Architectural Genius..>!! So sad...!!

Other then the occasional Bohemian slang of the fifties, it still is as fresh as todays New York Times. Going through these verses took me back to days filled with youth, and the growing concern for where we would go and could we do any better than the last generation. This was a question that bothered many of the creative people during this time, certainly this was a type of hip poetry that reached a bit into the same bag as Ginsberg , Burroughs' and others of the "Beat Generation", the reason why this stayed fresher in my opinion, is it went beyond the hip to attract a whole audience to modern poetry.I was fortunate in a sense to be exposed to poetry in an early age, my father and I both had played with poetry in are creative formative years. I am sure it was WW II that ended his writing as much as Vietnam War an the holocaust that it was amidst ended mine.To anyone who may consider buying this work, this is a work that expanded Ferlinghetti's work to a new generation. It was cool enough for many in the 1960's bought it just to look cool as they walked through the halls of education. "I know this much, that any society that pays more attention to it's politicos than poets is one that is doomed to decay and destruction." This last line may be something I read or wrote, at my age so many of these things merge, but I do believe it is worth consideration, as it this volume. Watch out, I plan to review other American Poet's.

This book is the beginning of the beginning of the Beat Generation. Even though Ferlinghetti preferred to be considered a bohemian poet there is no denying his integral role in the upstart of the poetry of the Beat generation. It was Ferlinghetti whose City Lights publishing that published Allen Ginsberg's 'Howl and Other Poems' which almost got him in a lot of trouble as far as the whole obscenity trial. But what most peoele don't know is that it was Ferlinghetti's 'Pictures of the Gone World' and 'A Coney Island of the Mind', published before Ginsberg's 'Howl and Other Poems', that truly sparked the sea change in the literary world of the 1950s and forever.' I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the origins of Beat poetry. This amazing book is truly the beginning of the beginning.

a long time favorite and a classic that deserves a spot on every book shelf. I bought this copy to infect my most literate granddaughter with some of Ferlinghetti's wonderful word paintings. "the pennycandystore beyond the El is where I first fell in love with unreality" The man and the book is a treasure.

First purchased in paperback in the 60's, this went missing even as my brain, 50 years later, wanted to experience it again. The CD is lovely (driving around listening to Ferlinghetti read his poetry on your car CD player ... a mind blower, for sure), the book itself is perfectly reproduced ... what's not to love? The poems themselves might seem a little dated if you are stuck in your own time zone (as would Shakespeare, if he weren't Holy) ...but you know, there's a lot of interesting stuff going on here.

More beat stuff that hipsters love. I have one question, where’s the grit in any of this? Nowhere. I also HATE the formatting of this book. It messes with the cadence and flow of the reading of it, so much that it ruins the poems for me.However if you’re a fan of Jack Kerouac, then I highly suggest this book. You will adore it.

I read this book when it was first published. Everything in it struck a chord with me. I loved it. Now I am buying it for my granddaughter, who is about the age I was when I first came across it, and asked me about my beatnik days in North beach in the 1950s. What better picture of that era than this book? She loved it. I highly recommend it.

I hadn't read this since high school which was a lifetime ago and it's just as good and relevant today

I personally am not a fan of poetry, but since I had recently become interested in Beat literature, I felt I must read this collection of poems by Lawrence Ferlinghetti. The book is comprised of three sets of poems. In the first set is a rant against the absurdities of American culture. While I wouldn't consider myself an angry young man, I found this section to be quite refreshing.The second set of poems, an Oral Message, is meant to be read aloud with jazz accompaniment. These were written in the 50's so it's sort of like a precursor to rap. I think I would have enjoyed this much more if I had seen it performed live.The final 13 poems are from his first book and deal mostly with death.Like I said I am not a huge fan of poetry, and most of these poems were case of hit or miss. Most enjoyed a great deal, some I didn't understand at all. Sometimes it was just a case of line or phrase that I found inspiring, but over all I really did enjoy this collection.

Archenemies by Marissa Meyer is the second book in the Renegades trilogy. With comic book hero vibes, it's an action-packed adventure you won't want to miss!I thoroughly enjoyed reading Archenemies! It was fast-paced, action driven, and full of exciting characters.The concept behind Renegades is so neat! I love the heroes versus villains construct, and the way the characters navigate the gray areas as they explore what's good and bad. Each character, whether villain or renegade, has a set of unique abilities. The main characters Nova and Adrian are known as Insomnia and Sketch. Insomnia can put people to sleep, and Sketch can bring just about any drawing to life. While there are a ton of cool abilities, I think Sketch's abilities are the best (and most useful!)Archenemies picks up where Renegades left off. Nova is knee-deep in renegades territory. The longer she's with them, the more the lines blur between friend and enemy. While Nova is technically a villain, she's not all bad. Just as Adrian is not the saint the renegades would paint him to be. I appreciate Nova and Adrian as morally gray characters in a world that tries to divide  everything as black and white.I had no idea how Archenemies was going to end, but the ending blew me away! Just when I thought truths were going to be uncovered, the mask is put back on. The third book is going to be downright sticky. So many webs have been woven, so I can only imagine how it's all going to blow up in the end. A lot happens in Archenemies! Things explode, people get hurt, and tension mounts as the lies start to build. I'm so excited for the third and final book in this awesome trilogy!If you haven't picked up Renegades yet, I highly recommend it! Marissa Meyer did a fantastic job building a pretty incredible world.

Wow! This episode of the Renegades series delivers so much of what I've been craving! I rarely say this, but I'm pleased Meyers decided to expand this into a trilogy. There wasn't a single wasted second in this book, in my opinion.I don't want to give anything away. The story is well thought out, and skims along at the perfect pace. The editing was done well. The characters continue to grow and the world-building is enthralling. Nothing here disappoints.Be prepared for even more action. Uncover more backstory secrets. Relish in the deepening of sweet relationships. Struggle with whether you are a Renegade or an Anarchist all over again.

I liked the first one.This one had good things about it, but the story kinda fell flat for me.I wanted more action and adventure with all these really cool characters that have really cool super powers. I got some action and adventure, but nothing like the fast-paced excitement I got last time.I almost got what I wanted with Nova and Adrian too, but again it was not to be.If there is another book, I hope it is more exciting than this one. I still think it's a cool group of villains and heroes. I want to see them do more to save humanity.

I read “Renegades” and “Archenemies” back to back, so I would invite you to read my review of “Renegades” to get the overall feeling of this series of books. The main character from “Renegades is back in this book and is still making poor choices that end up hurting the people she loves and the people she should love. Nova our main character thinks total anarchy is better than a good government. Nova turns out to be a hypocrite. In short she becomes the bad person. All the death and mayhem at the end of the book fall squarely on Nova’s shoulders. This is the only book that I have thought the the main character should die. The world would be a better place without her. I don’t think I will read the next book in the series. I don’t think I read Marissa Meyer anymore and that is to bad because I think Marissa is a good writer and she had a lot of good ideas with this series

This book was exactly what I needed!I truly did not expect myself to fall so in love with this book. When I first started it, I was a little worried that I wouldn't love it because lately I've been having a hard time keeping myself engaged with a book but from the moment I started this, it completely took over my life.It's been so long since I loved a book so much that I stayed up late to keep reading, that the first thing I did when I woke up was to reach for my book to continue reading. Honestly, for that feeling alone I want to give this book a five star.But I'm giving this a five star rating because it kept me engaged, it made me fall so deeply in love with these characters and most importantly, it gave me all the swoony romance scenes that were lacking in the first book.Also I really enjoy how this book looks at heroes and villains and shows how it's not all black and white. I love that it makes me look at things from different perspectives and to realize that when it comes down to it, there really isn't much of a difference between the villains and heroes.I will say that I find Nova's reasons for hating Renegade to be a bit childish even if I do completely understand her need to put the blame on them. But it's also plays a huge part into who she is today, and her beliefs on having powers in general. I love her perspective on things and I definitely agree to some degree on the way she thinks but I think she has some character development still to happen because she tends to only see things from her perspective.I love Adrian and I really can't think of one negative thing to say about him. I love that we really see him starting to question everything and he starts reevaluating the way he's always seen the world and starting to think that maybe there is room for improvement in the rules of the Renegades. I also absolutely love the way he adores Nova, so many times while reading this book he made me dreamy sigh and grin the cheesiest grin at the things he said or did for Nova <3I'm so freaking happy I decided to start this book yesterday. It's honestly the best decision I've made in a long time. And now I'm going to go cry in a corner because I have to wait a whole freaking year for the conclusion :(
