The online Portion of this book is awesome, lots of great questions and they line up well with all of the NCLEX review that I've done, there's multiple test modes and you can select the type of questions you get from a simple interface. That being said, the book is useless. You basically have to fold the pages in half in order to not see the answers, unless you have some crazy visual trick for completely blocking out half of your line of site (covering one eye aint gonna cut it). So here you are with a flimsy paper textbook, trying to hold it open when folding the page one way for 2 questions and then folding it the other way for the next 2, maybe trying to put a piece of paper down fast enough to actually block out the answers before you see them. You end up focusing more attention on using the book than actually studying the information in the book.Also, if you plan to study on a mobile device, don't buy this book. The web interface doesn't translate well to smaller screens, although it's very functional and has great information, it appears to be quite dated. The other reason for not purchasing it for a mobile device is that there is an app out there that the publisher doesn't appear to actually be the producer of, but they have licensed their questions to, the app costs the same as the book, but the book DOES NOT come with access to the app. So if you want access to the questions from mobile and that will be your primary study platform I would highly recommend going to the play store and looking for it (the picture of the cover will be the same as the one on this page).

They got out of that business fairly early on to concentrate on their color photo process. Complicated and a bit fussy processing created magical images that are wonderfully reproduced in this book. The history and detailed description of the process make for an fascinating tale of creativity in the industrial and fine arts. The authors are to be commended for the completeness and readability of the book. But then again, you could be pulled in by the the photos, alone.

Kids and zombies are a terrible combination. Everyone knows that. This story plows into the topic head-on and spares no details. As a parent, I was deeply upset by a lot of what these kids had to endure, but I found myself rooting for them and feeling proud right alongside them as they survived and accomplished things that would reduce most sane adults to gibbering puddles.The kids read as realistic to me for the most part. They weren't precious and the story didn't sugar-coat anything for them or the reader. Letitia is my hero.I didn't find either of the rape scenes necessary, but they were handled better than some I've seen.Excellent piece of survival horror that pushed past the usual limits of the genre, would recommend to anyone who loves a good zombie survival story. Fellow parents may feel the need to hug their own little ones a lot after reading. I know I will.

Mr. Williams, I have read a lot of horror books in the zombie genre. I can honestly say that this book was the best! Not one of the best, but, the best! Looking at this from a child's view made it hard to put it away to go about everyday life. I could not put it down. You have done an excellent job in writing this book. After this review, I will be checking out the other books on your list. What I also want to know is, will there be a sequel to this one? I would love a sequel. Even though I am somewhat new to Zombie Lit, I have read quite a few excellent examples but never have I read one that was so captivatingly original as this. The tag line THE WALKING DEAD MEETS LORD OF THE FLIES is very accurate. Imagine a group of 5 year olds who can handle an ax, gun or stake better than the neon crayons that they love so well and their 9 year old leader who seems to have read THE ART OF WAR while still floating in the womb. They are endearing and terrifying little killing machines far wiser, more efficient and much braver than any hero in any zombie or fictional book that I have ever read! Bless their innocently twisted hearts, they really are the little engine that could!Bravo Mr. Williams!

Wow! A Zombie Apocalypse as seen through the eyes of a young black child. Who would have thunk it? And if you think this is your average light-hearted YA dystopian thriller keep it moving. Because this book is not for the faint of heart. What these children have to endure, to survive after civilization collapses and adults turn on each other is horrifying. This book had me to the point where I could not literally put it down because I wanted to see what happened next to Letitia and her young charges. Some of the passages are so haunting that they will stay with you for days. You will find yourself still rooting for the kids although they lost their humanity in their struggle for survival and the only kid ‘like’ about them is their age. The author does a great job of showing the devolution of the human soul when it’s constantly faced with zombies and other humans that are worse than zombies. The ending leads one to believe there might be sequel coming and I for one hope so.

Very well written, and not your usual zombie story. Don't look for the men in the white hats to come save the day - they aren't in this book. The characters became real people to me. I recommend this book highly. Readers who would not normally pick up a fantasy or horror book will still find the portrayal of humans in a crisis compelling.

If you like horror and you’re looking for something new, this is undoubtedly it. I applaud Williams for the excellent new spin he’s put on the zombie genre. Well-written; the kind of writing that doesn't draw attention to itself. I read the whole thing in one slow workday. It's a cross between Hunger Games/Lord of the Flies and Zombieland/World War Z. I've been recommending it to all my bookworm friends, as well as the ones that only read thrillers.

I don't much care for zombie stories but just finished reading this one. I keep thinking if Letitia hadn't had her life interrupted by the zombie apocalypse, she would have made an outstanding inner-city middle school English teacher and then eventually a principal? Great character development, plausible (for zombies, anyway!) situations. Makes me want to make sure these kids get to grow up.

This book was printed backwards/upside down. I can't believe Amazon is ok with this. What a waste of money. I reached out to Amazon to correct it but I guess they didn't believe me. I'll come back during the week and post a video of this.

I had been told of the Herb Bible by a friend who even has a pocket version (I want that!) and I decided to buy one for my mom's household. She was fascinated by it and spent a good portion of Christmas Eve reading it. I then perused it as well and it is a wonderful way to begin learning about herbs and their benefits, particularly in place of over the counter meds. We are a family of believers in natural remedies anyway, but had no nice, small carry along book to guide us better. Now we do! I am buying 3 or 4 more for myself and friends. And the best part of this book is that it also gives you warnings about certain herbs and when to consult your doctor if you are taking meds. THAT is priceless! One thing I would love to have in an herb book is a list of ailments and the herbs that help. For instance, in the glossary it would be nice to look up INFLAMMATION and find the page detailing which herb is helpful for that. But I am being picky. Perhaps I need a different book for that.

I liked the original a lot better,the pages were clearer and it wasn't so compact making the print smaller.This is alright as the information is the same, but if I find the original out there I'm buying it.

Very helpful. Very informative. Print is a little on the small side because the book itself, is small. A larger print and book size would have made it great but the content is a "must have."

Ernle Bradford has given us a very good account of the Siege of Malta in 1565 - the last stand of the Knights Hospitallers. I know, it wasn't their last action, but was certainly the high point and they would continue to fade away as the one of the last vestiges of the medieval world.After their retreat from Rhodes, the Knights of St. John, known as the Hospitallers, were without a headquarters, a base and a home. Eventually, the Spanish king Phillip II gave them the small island of Malta as their fiefdom. The hot, infertile island of soft sandstone sat in the midst of the Mediterranean Sea south of Sicily and divides the east from the west. In the east, the Muslim Turks are masters. In the west, the fractured Christian powers vie with each other (the French actually had a "non-aggression" pact with the Turks) when not threatened from the east.The ever aggressive Muslim Turks realize that Malta is a strategic asset - or liability - and are determined to take it. From Malta, Sicily can be threatened, then Italy. Likewise, their possessions in North Africa as well as shipping can be threatened by the Knights and their war galleys. It is at this point that the author takes up the story.A massive fleet and army of 40,000 sail from Constantinople. A powerful, experienced fleet with elite and fanatical troops used to victories over Christian armies is on it's way. But, the Knights of St. John have a fanaticism of their own and the warrior monks of Christendom are prepared to sell their lives dearly. On the island, Grand Master de Valette shores up his defences, lays in stores for the siege and prepares his troops for the battle to come.The author does a fine job of chronicling the course of the battle from both sides. His history is sprinkled with first-person accounts from both Muslim Turk and Christian Knight. The combat is bloody and brutal with quarter neither asked for nor given. The battle is one of endurance and the author is able to point out each side's mistakes and the turning point of the conflict.This is a very good treatment of the siege and I recommend it with five stars. If you're looking for the bigger picture within which the siege of Malta is but a piece, I recommend Empires of the Sea: The Siege of Malta, the Battle of Lepanto, and the Contest for the Center of the World.

The Knight’s of St. John have been granted the island as their last place of refuge to continue on the order. Sultan Solyman is convinced, once the island falls, he will be able to continue his quest of glory and the abolition of Christianity forever.Grand Master, La Vellete has different ideals. He and his Knights will stand fast and protect the faith, even if it means every last person on the island is annihilated. To his God, he will be faithful and die defending the faith. As I read this fascinating story, I couldn’t help but fall back the “Siege of Leningrad from 1941 to 1944. Out numbered, out gunned, out supplied, and despite horrific living conditions and mounting casualties, they held. Not much had changed in three hundred and seventy-six years.Forty thousand Turks took to the sea and only ten thousand came back to tell the tale. A force of five hundred knights and eight to nine thousand men forced the Turks to return home with the jewel in their pocket.La Vellete’s ability to recognize that if the Grand Harbor falls, so does Malta, he took to an aggressive plan of build Fort St. Elmo on the knoll overlooking the harbor. This brilliant stroke of engineering and planning would the cog that would have the invaders attacking again and again and again. Think of Thermopylae and you get the picture. Yes, the fort finally succumbed to the overwhelming weight of the attacks, but at a cost that couldn’t be replaced.I highly recommend this work to those who are ardent followers of history and those who have a slight understanding but want to broaden their horizons.Five Stars

I love this kind of history - well-written, well-researched (largely based on several first-person accounts), full of interesting characters and context. I was somewhat familiar with the history of Malta and the Knights and Turkish struggles for dominance in the Mediterranean from a fictionalized account I'd previously read about the 1551 siege, but I wasn't at all familiar with The Great Siege. I'm very glad I noticed this title; my husband, who's primed to read it next, will be, too.

This book provides a detailed analysis of the Sultan's preparations for the Malta siege and the defense preparations of the Knights of St. John. The siege itself is presented with much suspense. It is well written with many interesting facts. The event itself was important in the sixteenth century in that it the siege marked a turning point in the Sultan's ambitions to control the western Mediterranean. A very well-written and important story. The suggestion that a map or geographical sketches would have helped is well-taken.

Really enjoyed this book especially the Audible version. Reads like a novel. The actual events twist and turn between victory and defeat for both sides. Bradford has done his homework and it helps to have an eyewitness document written not too long after the siege to refer to and to shed light on the defenses within the various fortifications.The book is an easy read. I found myself mesmerized throughout and didn't want to put the book down. Add to it the significance of the seige with respect to the Ottoman intentions in the Mediterranean and this book is easily and highly recommended!

This is a very readable and engaging history. I recognize that experts disagree with some of the details in various histories of the siege of Malta, but I am not competent to hazard an opinion on that, not being a historian myself. However, if there are a few details in question, that is not important to me. I read this for the pure enjoyment of the story and won't remember all the details in any event. This was a page-turner all the way. I'll leave to the experts all the quibbles.
