This is a page turner of the highest order. I lost sleep, unable to find a stopping place, because the plot twists like a snake and the action never stops. At first the action is fast-paced and incredibly tense. I was absorbed by the interaction of the well-defined characters and the twists of the story line. But then, when I was so involved in the story that I couldn't bear to look away, their lives become even more tense, while the action slashes and soars across solar systems, between stars and nebulae. Some chapter sets could have stood alone as novelettes. I picked up this book after reading some of Larson's 'The Undying Mercenaries'. In Undying Mercenaries, there were some moral issues I gritted my teeth to avoid disbelieving, but the protagonists in the 'Galactic Liberation' series reflect values I'd expect in military people, and the antagonists are antagonizingly evil. If you love space based sci-fi, this series is a winner that will take readers back to E.E. Doc Smith and the Lensman series. Do it!

Straker (the Liberator) is a powerful champion in the fight against the control of the Hundred Worlds, and his wife, Admiral Carla Engels is a superior commander of space fleets. However, the most interesting character is Trinity, who I will leave for you to suss out for yourself. There is a tendency in this book for everything to become at least one level more complicated than necessary for a good story, but if you stick with it you will enjoy it.

This series just keeps getting better and better!!! It changes and evolves and is a new different story each time! I love it and it only gets better when you read it a second time. Do yourself a favor and add the Audible narration and hear this too!!! It's worth it to support BVL and DV to create great reads like this. Don't forget to put up some stars and review to show your support!!!

B.V. Larson is one of my favorite sci-fi writets and this book doesn't fail to keep in it's grip. I would higly recommend, altough works best if you read the whole series. Book has a a good combination of action, philosophy, humor, some romance, politicis, behind the scenes maneuvering.Only problem I have with this writer that he has so many good series and settings that I like, msking it difficult to know for which one I'd like the next book be set in :)

I like this series, but I don't love it.Basically, there is a lot going on. Sometimes it seems like there's too much. This thing turns into Games of Thrones in space sometimes.That being said, I do like where the series is headed.

As we have come to love, the breakneck pace of these books doesn't stop in the third of the series.Spy missions, new enemies, space battles galore, a revealing of the "true" threat? It doesn't let up for a moment!Book 4 is going to be insane!!!

While not the deepest of story lines, this book kept me entertained and wanting for more.Of the books in this series, I probably liked this one the most as it had more complex/ thought provoking subject matter.I would highly recommend this book for some one looking for a great quick read.

Loved the three book series. An excellent collaboration between the two authors. I have really enjoyed evey book of every serires B V Larson has written and now I have another author to follow. The book hints at another sequel; I hope it comes soon.

I borrowed this book at my local library and, after reading it, ordered a copy for my daughter. Traveling Mercies is an honest account of Lamott's life (warts and struggles) and her faith in God. I, too, have faith, but find I'm often stereotyped as to my political beliefs and my mind set (narrow mindedness by default apparently) simply because I believe in God. This stereotyping gets so very old!!!! Lamott's perspective on God is genuine and refreshing. One of my daughters currently struggles with three of the same issues Ms. Lamott fought. My hope is my daughter will see herself in this book and realize God loves her even if she isn't perfect and, on the flip-side, she doesn't have to be perfect to have a relationship with God.

Though this book has rave reviews and I'm an avid reader, I must admit I've started this 3 separate times and I just can't get engaged. I find it laborious reading and really dry. I'm sure many will disagree and that's okay. It's just not to my personal liking.

I knew Ms. Lamott from "Bird by Bird," so when I saw this book lying on a table at my daughter and son-in-law's home, I decided to download it and read 95% of the biographical extended sketch while flying from DC to Colorado. It's a touching, cunningly written, occasionally laugh-out-loud glimpse into her spiritual journey and her personal life. Well done, Anne; once again you've taught me how a writer at the top of her game can subtlety influence the rest of of us who are trying to develop our expository skills while simultaneously opening your own world to all your readers.

I've learned that honest, humble, salt of the 🌎 people are the most interesting to read. There is a lot of love in this book, soul-searching, moral deliberating... thank you Anne. Four stars because we are all learning still.

I love Anne Lamott's "Bird by Bird," and decided to explore her other works... Wow! What a story this is, what a collection of hard-learned lessons, what a lot to ponder and apply to my own experience!Anne Lamott is not only a fine prose stylist and writer on writing, she is a profound thinker, a philosopher, a wise woman. Her Christianity is tempered with poverty and addiction, peppered with street language and cultural references (some of them, alas, give the text a dated flavor)... she is a very real, flawed person. She is an author who's paid her dues, and practices her faith without apology, coyness, or self-righteous blather.I will read this book over and over, and I've already given it as a gift to other people struggling to make sense of child-raising, aging, and how beautiful life is in the midst of the noise.

Mercies i have written this review three times without postinhg it. I guess it is sprcial to me. This book by Anne lamont a single parent in No. California grabed me the first time I read it. Ann's writing reveals tender mercies, and small miracles, She is a modern day woman grappling with how to grope with raising her son, living with faith, her friends and people whio pass through her life. I reread it because i was feeling down and depressed an knew Ann llamont's brand of faith woul restore me. It di, thank you. thank you thank you. I want to casll her, as she calls her friends san asks how to eal with this worl. She writes with humour, compassionm an grace an quite well.

I absolutely loved this book. I felt that Anne Lamott had invited me into her home for a cup of tea and while she wrapped me around a quilt that she had knit herself, shared her thoughts and stories on spirituality, life, her son, and herself. It's a warm account of her life, her faith, her friends and everything that matters to her. She did a brilliant job capturing the magic that makes her spiritual and how it is infused in her everyday life. The writing is superb, top-notch, and her book is elegantly structured with essays beautifully tied together like the quilt I had mentioned before. Once in a while, one gets quite saddened that a book is about to end, that a voice is about to close, and that is how I felt when I read the last page. I've been reading many spiritual memoirs lately, and this is one of the best thus far.

This is a very enjoyable pirate story for beginning readers or for us parents to read to our kids. It is about kids of pirates that go to school every day just like toehr kids, only they go in a school bus painted row boat to a giant pirate ship/public school. The lessons they teach are backwards to our own morals and not fair, as the kids are to be greedy and not share, and worse yet to fight when they have disputes. But these rules dont work when it is treasure hunt day on the spooky island. Although each boy claims to have found the treasure first, they quickly learn tha if they are to survice, they must ingore the pirate rules and instead cooperate, share, help out, and trust each other. Wonderful story, I highly reccommend.

My grandson wanted to be a pirate for a long time so I bought him this book. He loves it, so if he's happy I'm happy. Great price.

A great read-to or early reading book. Lots of fun with my SPED students who request it again and again!

My son loved the book. It was creative and exciting for him.

When my son received this book he read it to himself right away. It is a not a short read, yet the words are the right level of reading for a 7 year old. He read it cover to cover immediately and really enjoyed it.

I ordered this because my nephew is reading level 2 books. However, when it arrived, the book actually looks a little different and says "Level 3" on it. I double checked my order to make sure this is what I ordered and it was. So this book was either changed to level 3 and the description and picture was not updated, or Amazon made an error.

I was so disappointed with this book. The two boys who attend "Pirate School" are taught, by their teacher, to "fight it out" when they have disagreements. The authors also shared that the boys "hate" each other. I will not read the book to my son.

The pirate motif has been somewhat oversubscribed of late and the dearth of pirate products is proof. Pirate School fits perfectly into the genre and it is not a let down. The animation and narrative are entertaining and compelling enough for a 5 year old and not too rough or scary. This is a good pirate story.

I am a Kurt Vonnegut fan! I re-read that audio book of Breakfast of Champions. A second reading was worth it.My first reading was close to the publication and I mostly enjoyed his almost despair about war and life in general. What had attracted me to his work was the book Cat's Cradle, which described a science indifferent to the harm it could do and people unable to stop themselves from ending the world....yet a foolish religion, based on lies, helped.Breakfast of Champions is more experimental. The author is present in the text with the power to lead his characters into suffering and participate in the consequences. The book is full of drawings, which the reader in the audio book ably describes. It is also full of explanations of very common things and slogans from advertising. The hint of Pop Art emerges.The N. word, which today is worse that any other swearing sexual or otherwise, is used frequently. This is jarring....but probably reflects to time of the story. The problems of racism, insanity, planet destruction, misuse of jails, even a gay son for a central character are all a part of the mix. Except for the N. word.....it remains timely.The climax of the story happens in a restaurant where the author's heart is opened by a speech by an avante garde artist whose peculiar looking expensive artwork......is really about human dignity. That's what's great about Kurt Vonnegut books. In the mess of the world, he understands and expresses the reality of grace and human dignity. Hope without a lot of evidence. I like it!

I really don't feel that I am qualified enough to review Vonnegut, but this has long been one of my favorite of his books. This is by far the most entertaining, with the most laugh out loud moments and...you can love him or hate him for his agenda...or you can read him because he is an entertaining man.When it comes to fiction, that should really be the only litmus test: "was it entertaining" and for better or for worse reading Vonnegut's and Hoover's break down into the realm of mental insanity was beautifully entertaining.Never mind the critics and the stuffy academic thesis's of scholars. Read it because it's funny and entertaining.

I first read this book about 15 years ago and remembered thinking it was hilarious...turns out it still is. It is almost impossible to describe this book but I think everybody should read some Vonnegut and this is as good of a place to start as any. This book will make you laugh out loud but also leave notions in your head to contemplate long after you have finished reading it.

This book stars Dwight Hoover, who is locally rich and famous in an Ohio town.This book also stars Kilgore Trout, who before being honored by Eliot Rosewater is nowhere famous.Actually, Trout is famous because the writer who created him, Kurt Vonnegut. Vonnegut is famous, and he wrote this book. Vonnegut is also a character in the book, and he knows that he is writing it.Vonnegut makes Hoover, Trout, and Rosewater his puppets. It is a fun breaking of third and fourth walls, almost metafictive, and it doesn’t make you feel like Vonnegut is trying to say “Look how clever I am” because he really is clever. In an understated way. All the characters come together for a thing that happens. I won’t spoil it for you.I first read this when I was in my early 20s. I lay on full-sized mattress as the springs poked me through the cheap foam pad, and I was deep in Vonnegut’s world. The time passed too fast. I read it again this weekend, after a dozen years or so. The only difference is that I sat up for the most part, on a comfortable couch I own. That, and I appreciated the drawings differently (There are a number of drawings). The younger version of me liked them because they were a bit risqué. Older me wanted each new drawing to be a new tattoo.

Easily not one of Vonnegut's best works. Despite uncompelling protagonists and no real plotline, you get many of Vonnegut's amusing observations and abstractions. The chrono-synclastic infundilium, the Church of God the Utterly Indifferent, and a Tralfamadorian cameo.

Somewhere, somewhen, somebody up there likes you. Such is the message of Kurt Vonnegut's fantastic, early novel, The Sirens of Titan. I first read this beautiful literary achievement when I was a mere prat of 13. It sat in my then off to college, older brother's bookshelf. It was the cover of the Dell (if I recall correctly) paperback, showing a stylized reproduction of (Titian's?) "VENUS On A Half-Shell." I was just beginning puberty and had no idea of what sexual arousal was, but I knew how to resolve it by myself. I was hoping to read something about the woman on the cover.There wasn't a word about her in the text, but, looking back, I was off on one of the most influential adventures of my life. Some would say this novel is cynical; I disagree. At the time of that first read, I didn't think I'd understood much of it, but I took some really spiffy words to school. "Chrono-synclastic infundibulum," "Tralfamador," to name two. I believed they made me seem mysterious and (in the vernacular of northeastern Massachusetts) "wicked smart".As it turned out,as if by osmosis, I absorbed much of the underlying existential philosophy, the satirical attitude, the humor and the HOPE. Thus began my love affair with Vonnegut, adult sci-do and words. Read it, read it again and experience true American genius. The only question for me now is, how many descendants does Mark Twain have?

We ordered the Alice in Wonderland with the green leather cover. I thought it was difficult to tell which reviews went with which versions. I'm really glad we grabbed this version, the cover (despite the ugly green color) is quite beautiful with embossed lettering and shiny red roses and border. The edge of the pages are golden, there is a red ribbon for marking your page. All of the original artwork is presented, and the page layouts are perfect. The front and back cover have a vivid full color painting of the tea party. If you are looking for a high quality version of the book, I couldn't recommend this one more. The size is medium. It is half way between the size of a paperback and a hard cover text book.

This review is for the RED "hardcover" and I will post pictures because when I read reviews prior to purchase I was super confused and had no idea which book the reviews were about.First, the cover is gorgeous but it's not "hardcover" (see photo). It's a lovely soft cover, covered with leather which is partially embossed; the gold lettering appears to be painted on. The back cover is just as well made and embossed as well.Second, this is the full version of both stories, not an "abridged" version.The generous illustrations are beautifully done.I can't believe this book is only $10!I hope my review helps!

I had a difficult time determing which version was being reviewed in many of these reviews, so I am specifically reviewing the version that is illustrated by Anna Bond. This is a great version to use with younger kids- it has larger print and illustrations on almost every page. If you want to purchase accompanying audio to listen with, just buy the unabridged version and it should be a match.

This is incredible! Absolutely beautiful.. Extended my expectations!! I have seriously never seen a more beautiful book! The detail is awesome and even the story itself is from the original Lewis Carroll version. Not only is each page a beautiful pop up.. But each page has mini fold out pages with more pop up artwork. This will be a keepsake for our family. SO glad I bought this and will look at buying others!

I loathe when Amazon lumps the reviews of different books together so this is for the hardcover version illustrated by Charles Santore. The cover is beautiful with an older looking cover and the color illustration of Alice falling. The sketches throughout the book are in black and white. The pages are thick and sturdy but cut roughly on the sides. The font is a great size and spacing and on a very white background. I hate when they use a small print and tight spacing on older books. The sketches are beautifully done and do a wonderful job of bringing Alice and the story to life. They do pale in comparison to the illustrated versions but unfortunately that edition is abridged. I had never read the story before so I was not aware of the differences between Alice’s Adventures Underground and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland but there are many. This book for example does not have the chapter on the Mad Tea Party. That and other parts would be added in to the story so if that’s the version you are interested in than this is not the version for you.

I don't always like annotated editions, but I bought this one because both stories were included and it retains all of the original illustrations like the ones I remember reading as a child. Having said that, I enjoyed the illustrations by other artists included for historical context. Some of them are quite stunning, in fact. The thing I hate about annotated editions is the way the annotations create visual "clutter." Yes, that is the case here as well. I really have to force my slightly OCD-like mind to ignore that and concentrate on the text of the story. However, as a history buff, I enjoy reading the annotations from a historical perspective. It's a big book, so if you enjoy a hefty hardcover, this is the one for you.

This review is specifically for the penguin hardcover cloth-bound classics edition (white with pink flamingos)!Naturally, the tale of Alice in Wonderland (told in two books; Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass) is definitely a fun, unique tale that appeals to children and adults alike, so of course I wanted to own a quality copy of it! I like how this edition contains both books and is hardcover with a simple cover design that looks timeless and elegant on my bookshelf. The book is full of useful notes and information in edition to having the tale; plus it contains the classic illustrations too! The paper is very high quality, the printing very attractive, and overall it was well worth the $10 I spent on it. I thought it was such an attractive edition that I bought one for my sister, who is a collector of the various editions of this tale. I've no complaints except that I don't really care for how rough the fabric is; it's not very nice to hold in your bare hands in my opinion, and it makes a sound when it's placed on the shelf next to other cloth-bound hardcovers from the penguin classics series, so those are two things to keep in mind. I personally would have preferred either a softer fabric or for the books to have been bound in hard-backed pleather.

The author is a brilliant contracts attorney; you can tell by the way he analysis and re-analyzes issues. I took a contracts drafting course in law school many years ago; we didn't have a textbook, so a book like this would have been very useful. Mr. Adams's brilliance leads to some of the issues that I have with the book. There is a lengthy critique the terms "must" and "shall" and that corporate law departments overuse these terms, but the author does not provide a practical alternative. I agree with Mr. Adams that contracts should be as simple as possible without losing meaning, but his advocating removing recited consideration from a contract seems erroneous because recited consideration without actual consideration is valid in a minority of jurisdictions. It would seem to me that the best practice would be to provide language that is valid in as many jurisdictions as possible.

If you are involved with drafting or reviewing contracts, this book is an essential read and as an ongoing reference. It you follow Ken's recommendations, you will improve your drafting skills. It's also helpful in reviewing contracts by providing strong arguments that you can use to support your changes.I highly recommend this book. It has been criticized as being somewhat pedantic, however, I disagree with that critique. Ken presents well researched logic for his recommendations. If you don't agree with his recommendations, then present a better counter argument.This book and his web site AdamsDrafting are, in my opinion, the best sources available for advice on contract drafting.

A contract attorney, law student, paralegal or self educated contract specialist will find great value within these pages. The nuances of drafting contracts that includes details not often taught in schools and law firms are presented and when and why they should be used. This one will be at the top of your go to list in short order.

I've been a working contract manager and analyst for about 10 years. Outside of the areas where there are absolute rules (and there's very few of those) there is quite a bit misdirection, confusion, and misinformation related to what must be, or must not be included in contracts and what the appropriate language should be or how a contract must be drafted in order for it to be correct. I've worked, in a business capacity, with many attorney's, had conversations with many people in forums, and looked for specific answers to questions.What I've come away with is that there are few clear rules (other than avoiding any language that would be illegal) and most of the opinions are just that opinions.Books of this type are rare in that they do a good job of removing some of the mystique from contract drafting and provide straightforward and intelligent insights and answers into many situations that drafters will come across.For anyone who works in this field I highly recommend this book.

The book can be somewhat difficult to understand. Some of the language is difficult to understand. I can only digest a few chapters at a time. Books like this one work best with experience. The Manual was written as a suggestion best practices framework for contract specialists.

This is a very easy to use guide book that will allow you and your team to immediately improve the quality of the contract documents produced. The next (3rd.) Edition was just released. It's on my must-buy list.
