Great book, not just for kids but for adults as well. The "why's" behind the thought processes and actions that cause anxiety are clearly written and backed by solid research. The steps for dealing with anxiety are clear, progressive and actionable. I found the book interesting and easy to read. There is a lot of information but the areas that are familiar were easy to identify. I have been using some of the practices in the book with my family and it has led to some interesting and eye opening conversations.

This book does such a great job of explaining what anxiety is, the range of ways it can show up in kids (and/or adults) and how you can get it under control. Dr. Walker's practice of utilizing CBT and exposure therapy with patients is spot on and I have witnessed it work firsthand. I highly recommend this book as a guide to help you and/or your child learn how to identify, understand and manage anxiety. The guidance laid out is priceless and will be beneficial to anyone suffering from anxiety.

This book is short, readable, based on proven research, and contains all sorts of easy-to-use checklists. I was surprised to learn how much of what I was doing as a parent was exacerbating (and not helping) our son's anxiety. The CBT approach is very practical and it works. We have a much happier child - and much happier, more relaxed family. Thank you for writing this book.

A large focus of the book is King Phillip's War of 1675-1676 between the Indians and English settlers. Ms. Weddle is not only a brilliant scholar but an entertaining storyteller, the book is a feast of captivating stories. History, philosophy, and theology buffs should have this in their libraries, certainly, but any reader with an inquiring mind and a love for good story should read this book. Looking forward to Ms. Weddle's next work. One suggestion: take your time to savor it. A sparkling concatenation of insights will be the reward.

Interesting from a Biblical perspective. My child liked this one (loved the beginning) but at the end he didn't care for it. We were doing it with a coop, so not a big loss to lose speed at the end. It was a good quality text though. We did enjoy it for the most part and the Biblical outlook is very much appreciated. I am pleased that we used it. The older edition (this one) was easy to use with the newer edition. There is SO LITTLE different in them (the new one updates the function of the appendix) and some more pictures/illustrations are all we found different. The difference was SO small, students used both editions in the class with no problem. We had a boy with the newer edition read the few lines about the appendix. Save yourself a lot of money and go with this edition. Donna Young has info on her site as well and she didn't pick up any other differences. Buy this one in confidence.

We purchased this for my son, and it was the absolute best choice we could have made. He did not look forward to science with all the reading, especially having to stop and check pronunciations of hard words. Now with this audio version, he actually enjoys science and listening while reading along with the textbook. This cd has taken the chore out of science and allowed it to not be a drag. He likes the voice on the cd and said, "She does not read too fast or too slow."

Good overview of legal specialties. Would like to see an updated version, especially as I’m sure the specialties have evolved (particularly those involving technology or the internet). Very useful.

Comprehensive yet easy to read guide gives good insights into each practice area.

Most books available on the legal field are not all that helpful - this book is not one of them. It is very well written and provides a great overview of many legal specialties. A must for Career Offices and students and lawyers who are unsure what field they want to practice in or how they can involved in a particular field of law.

My career center had this and I loved it so much I had to buy it for myself. I can see myself referencing it for years to come even after I choose one path, in case I want to move laterally.

This book is a good place to start, it gives a good overview for someone just exploring the different legal specialties out there.I doesn't have as much detail as I would have liked, but I still think its a good place to start for anyone considering law school.

As other reviewers pointed out, this book doesn't indicate a single negative aspect about any of the practice areas it covers. To me, this seemed unrealistic and impractical for someone trying to make a decision about their career path - being presented with all pros and no cons. I purchased this book to explore possible alternative practice areas for my established practice, perhaps as a guide for new associates I may employ who want to explore different areas of law - and I was disappointed.For starters, I was surprised that many relatively common areas of practice were not addressed at all, such as Social Security Disability, construction law, and a few others. Then, the scope of the people interviewed in this book seems to be comprised mainly of attorneys from Illinois, Minnesota, and Washington DC. I understand that the author has a connection to Illinois, but a criminal defense practice in Chicago may be very different from one in a small town in Utah. Next, the daily tasks. This one drew a few smiles from me. Other than perhaps the description of the prosecutor's job, nearly every single practice area involved several hours per day on the phone, client meetings, and depositions. Really? After a while, all the tasks from the various practice areas begin to blend together and the practice of law seems like one lengthy phone call. Finally, glowing in the warmth of their practice areas, it would seem that all these lawyers are in love with their clients and spend their careers waltzing from one pleasant scene to the next. What about the reality of chasing clients for unpaid bills? Clients who report lawyers to the licensing authorities or sue them for malpractice?Bottom line: the practice of law is not all rainbows and butterflies, but this book would make it seem as though it is.

Just kinda skims over each specialty. Could use some depth.

A must for any pre law or law student. It's helped me sound smart, knowing what different kinds of lawyers do.
