This initially was one of the best Reno Gabrini books that I've read! Then why the low rating, you ask? Ms. Monroe is still careless about cleaning up the errors - i.e. Maddie was "adducted" not "abducted". That was one of many. I have bought every book Ms. Monroe has written and I'm tired of the unnecessary, careless errors. Adduct is a word which, in physiology is the opposite of abduct, so using spell check won't catch that error. She should have simply said that Maddie was kidnapped. A good editor should have caught that. I'm no editor, just curious as why the same types of errors keep showing up in Ms. Monroe's books. Who is careless? Ms. Monroe is responsible. It's her work. I only took off one star for those continuing errors. I pay the asking price so I expect a professionally written book, free of the same types of grammatical errors.Same old bombastic language, "Thanks to her miserable mother, the situation has gone from dire to damn near impossible". How about some originality???Please pay more attention to developing The plot and less to Reno and Trina's sex life. Reno always needs Trina to release his stress, harder at night and more loving in the morning. Now, Trina needs that same stress relief - over and over. We know and we get it already. Do they ever just make love because they love each other and it feels good. Sex is good but we know all we need to know about Reno's and Trina's sex life. Stop the paste and copy sex. Use that time for plot and character development and back stories. The other problem is one that is also repetitious in her books. There are always loose ends that have no bearing on the outcome and often make no sense. Some may be answered in other books and some are never answered. The PaLargio again, isn't that played out? Or, was that written in her best books about Reno and Trina? Why make them homeless? Koba Morzi gets caught at the scene of the crime by the Gabrinis??? Please!!! The same man who had a helicopter ready, whose men used rocket propelled, grenade launchers on guns. The same man who had Reno, Tommy, Sal and even Mick missing his men and others working for him repeatedly. Why does Jimmy spot him? Not because he feels Maddie as Reno felt the punch in the gut and knew Jimmy was in trouble? Wasn't Maddie in more danger than Jimmy? Why didn't his heartstrings throb for Maddie? A little over the top, huh? That's how this book left me feeling. Does the Queen get off that easily? We may never know? Why was Hammer Reese and the Black Ops brought in? Will they find Caribella and Arte? Really, who cares?A really good book with an excellent storyline again rated lower because of errors and too many loose strings, IMO.
I enjoy all of Mallory Monroe’s books and she usually knocks them out of the ballpark. However, I was greatly disappointed in this latest edition. It reminded me of a patchwork quilt that was poorly made by amateurs. The gang was very stilted in their actions and they seemed like characters in a play who had not taken ownership of their lines. Characters, such as the Queen of Moravia, and Big Bog and his brothers reminded me of characters out of an old school cartoon, who are on the edge of buffoonery. I understand where Ms .Monroe was going with tempering Reno when the men came and jacked him up because of what Trina had chastised him about, but on a personal level, I didn’t like the true Reno being squashed. I don’t why I was left with the feeling that the author just needed to get a book finished to get the quota she had promised. It was like she was throwing pieces of mud with some pieces falling and some pieces sticking and not very well. Come on, Ms. Monroe, I have read at least two-thirds of your books and I know that your writing could be better than what was displayed this time. I wait eagerly for your books.
Let me start off by saying out of the 79 Ms. Monroe books posted on amazon I have all except for 7 books. Also Tommy was the first book that led me to Ms. Monroe's works, which led me to go back purchase all the others. I am a fan. I love your stories and I agree with what I have read from the following reviews. However, I understand turning out a book every 4-6 or 7 weeks, but I would like longer stories and more Tommy stories. I feel as though he is being pushed to the side. (I guess because he is how my journey started). You have a talent that has woven the lives of brothers, cousins and uncles (and wives and children) into something truly awesome. But I personally would love longer stories. I read a lot but your books and Ms. Mynx are the ones that keep me returning. Please extend your books and give Tommy more books. I know your followers would be appreciative.
She did not disappoint with this story. It caught me by surprise by which family member was attacked this time. Koba Sorzi was just as crazy as his Caribella. Even though she got away. I have a feeling that the Gabrini family will hear from her again. What really surprised me was how Val really changed. We had not heard from her or Grace in several books. To top the irony off was how Val met her demise by the hands of a loved one. Koba may have destroyed the things that Reno loved but he did not destroy the love the family has for each other. Material things can be rebuilt. Trina will make sure that Reno has that fire in him to rebuild the Pelargio and their home. What I missed in this story was the funny banter between Sal and Reno. Even though there was some there, it was not the time or occasion to have a lot of it. I also enjoyed how the entire family comes together to help out one another when one is in trouble. When you go after one, you get the whole family. Even Hammer Reese got involved. Reno and Trina's love is still strong behind this one event too many that almost destroyed them, but Trina came to her senses when she realized that she loved Reno and knew darn well what she was signing up for and that Reno was the only one who could protect her and the children. My heart just went out to Reno when we thought he had a heart attach. I think that shook up everyone to realizing that Reno is a real flesh and blood falable man, no matter how tough and strong he looks on the outside. He was beating up himself because his family was paying for the mistakes he made in his past life. Now Maddie was in the crosshairs to one of those enemies that not only wanted revenge on Reno but want to destroy him and everything that he held dear. But in the end, they are the Gabrinis and Sinatras as Mick said, you can't hold them down or defeat them, not when the entire family is at work..
